A Few Things
About Me:
-
Homeschooled my four kids K-12. Why? Because I love to learn and
wanted them to love to learn as well. It seems to have worked out okay -
They have degrees and jobs, if that means anything. I'm not sure
they're normal, but we weren't aiming for that.
-
I
always thought I'd go on Jeopardy! when I was done homeschooling
because I know so much trivia now. But instead, I went back to school
in the great city of Philadelphia. Homeschooling only further fed my
insatiable curiosity and I have to do something while I wait for grandkids.
-
I'm
within striking distance of a PhD in Educational Psychology. I've had a keen
interest in how kids learn best for eons and this is the field that tries to
answer that question.
I'm particularly interested in answering questions about how, why and when
homeschooling works best. Hence, the blog, the Google group, the website, so
I can tell you what I've learned.
-
I love
to travel and speak -- in that order. So I have developed quite a few
seminars on homeschooling in order to keep those opportunities for exotic
travel coming. What I really like about this is the fascinating folks (
especially the kids and teens) I get to know on the other end.
-
I've
been teaching for more than thirty years - but in quite an array of
contexts. I taught in a public school and community college long, long time
ago. Then I taught for sixteen years at Creative Home Educators
Support Services, and now I teach online and at the university where I'm
finishing my degree. I've taught little kids, big kids, adults and tweeners.
I primarily teach literature and composition; but I've also taught history
and education classes, too.
